1) had bluebird conditions at the Jungfraujoch
2) rented mountain bikes and cruised up Lauterbrunnen valley
3) witnessed dozens of flying squirrel suit BASE jumpers doing their thing right over our heads
There wasn't a cloud in the sky first thing in the morning. We caught the first train to the top:
At the Jungfraujoch, it was about 25 degrees out and very bright with all of the glacial reflection:
We had lunch at our favorite restaurant at Wengneralp, then headed down to Lauterbrunnen to rent bikes for the afternoon. This is what Lauterbrunnen looked like on the train ride down from Wengen:
Right after we took this shot we heard a WHOOOSH above us then saw a flying squirrel suit guy zip across the sky and deploy his chute halfway across the valley. We were in disbelief. Is that what just happened??? If you look closely at this photo, the black spot is a squirrel suit BASE jumper:
I have zoomed in on this shot in the photo below so you can see the distinct outline of the special flying suit:
Here he is after deploying his chute:
A closer look at another guy right as he is deploying his chute:
As you would expect, some of these guys were characters:
We watched for about an hour and saw dozens of people jumping. Mesmerizing. We could actually see them jump from the cliff above, free fall, then start flying.
Turns out the reason so many were in town is that the "world championships" are going to be held next week in Lauterbrunnen.
Yet one more reason this place kicks ass!!
