It was cold and foggy in the morning. Not the right day to head to the summit and observe the alps from the Jungfraujoch.
So we decided to take a tram over the
mountain into Grindelwald, and then do a nice hike up alongside a glacial crack to an alpine restaurant.
Here is the tram we took:
You can get a sense of how big of a playground we are playing in with the map behind Cam:
This is the glacial valley we hiked up:
The first good glimpse of the valley from the high trail:
Look how the trail switchbacks up that grassy nose:
Jon hanging five off the edge:
Judy, Cam, and Pete standing away from the edge:
Cam and Judy with the fenceless trail behind them. Many hundreds of feet down:
Look at the rock wall and see a beautiful (but narrow) glacial waterfall:
Grassy slope, cliff, grassy slope, cliff. Repeat:
Here is the little alpine restaurant perched above the glacier:
Cam on the deck of the restaurant. Check the glacier and the little pool:
We had delicious vegetable soup and fresh bread with perfect crust. Jon also had a fresh bratwurst, and is seen here squeezing Swiss mustard out of what looked like a toothpaste tube. Mmmmmmmmm:
The sun came out a bit on the way down. Here is what the glacial crack looked like:
Judy on the way back down:
Another great day of exercise and clean air!
