Dinner party at Caroline and Aurel's

Our incredible hosts put together a delicious home-cooked meal for us and 5 of their closest friends. Aurel is a creative and capable chef. We had shrimp and guacamole to start, perfectly broiled Mahi Mahi, a cheese course that covered both France and Switzerland, homemade caramel whipped cream with fig compote, and some of the finest wine France has to offer.

Their friends were amazing: two were in the French foreign service, one works in the Ministry of Culture and whose relative wrote the French constitution, and one who had some mysterious gambling episode in Vegas. All were interesting, and all were GOOD people. Meeting Caroline and Aurel's friends while we've been here has been THE highlight of the trip.

Anyways, here are some photos of the big night.

He chose a few magnums of Lafite Rothschild that Jon thought "were probably ok to drink"
Jon and Caroline started with Champagne:

Dinner was ridiculous!
But Aurel's homemade whipped cream with caramel was the highlight of the night. Note the device he is using to dispense the cream:
It is 2am and we need to wake up in 4.5 hours to head to Chinon and the castle. More later. I still need to post our photos from yesterday when we went to the Louvre!!!
