Wow, Ribeira d'Ilhas is a world class surf spot

Just up the road from Ericeira (20 minute walk) is an incredible surf spot called Ribeira d'Ilhas. It is a reef break that feels like Swami's when you look at the cliffs, and lines up a lot like Ho'okipa, with a righthander main spot, a middle spot that can go right and left and sometimes connects all the way through to the inside right, and a "Pavil's" style right as well. The setup is unreal:
They have this wooden waking pathway from the cliff above down to the beach with cool little checkout pavilions along the way down:
It looks like something out of the Hobbit:
There is a nice food truck in the parking lot:
Incredibly nice showers and bathrooms:
This bathroom would be typical for a boutique hotel... But this is in the surf spot parking lot. Very nice:
As we were leaving the wind died as the sun was setting. It really started pumping. We saw some 2 ft overhead sets that lined up like a classic reef point break. Very rippable. You can get the scale of the waves by looking at the standup paddler:
No close outs this evening. Just long peeling rights. I was going nuts without my board at this point:
We've surfed it a few times since that evening and haven't seen it that good since. Still fun though. Swell is picking up tomorrow so we are hitting it all morning!
