More great food in San Sebastián

We woke up and went for a run around the peninsula. The air was clean and crisp. Definitely cooler than yesterday, and not a cloud in the sky:
After our run, we were ready for pinxtos. 15 seconds from our hotel, Atari was our first stop:
The interior was very tastefully done. Felt like the place could be in New York. We got there right after they opened, so the pintxos were looking super fresh:
We ordered the veal cheek. Very good, but not quite as good as Borda Berri's yesterday:
The goat cheese salad was off the hook. One of the best salads we've had in a long time. On par with the Snow Boat in Zermatt. It felt good to get some greens in the system:
Next we hit A Fuego Negro, a very hip, cutting edge pintxo bar. 30 second walk from Atari (you are starting to get the idea about how densely packed the old quarter is with excellent restaurants):
The clientele skewed way younger here, and the place plays some cool music over the sound system:
The pintxos were very good. On the left we have their take on a Kobe beef burger. On the right, it was a lightly fried squid that was like a tempura onion ring but with a light dabbling of squid ink on the inside of the ring. Very good stuff that we had never seen before:
Then we had a delicious grilled cod in a sort of a red bell pepper sauce:
Then we went 50 feet, passing 6 other pinxtos bars, to get to Ganbarra:
Their specialty is mushrooms. Check the variety and quantity out. They pick them from this pile when you order the plate, then sauté them in oil and butter:
Then they place an egg yolk in the center, and you are ready to go to mushroom heaven. I think there were about 6 different kinds on the dish, so there was a great variety of flavor, even though it just looked like a plate of mushrooms. We loved it:
We are now taking a siesta, and will hit a few more pinxtos bars this evening. We'll report on those tomorrow. Adios!
